This paper systematically summarized the clinical cases of professor ZHANG Lei, and analyzed the characteristics of Huangqin (,Radix Scutellariae,) in clearing heat and related application experience from channel en⁃try, natures and flavors, functions, target disease or syndrome, and combination of medicinals. Huangqin can clear the heat of half-exterior half-interior, shaoyang, (少阳), and together with the clear-raising medicinals, it can pass the pathogen to the external and therefore harmonize the three yang. Huangqin can clear the constraint heat of, jueyin, (厥阴), and can be used to treat, jueyin, diseases, with, cold and heat in complexity syndrome by combining with sinking and descent medicinals such as Tianma (,Rhizoma Gastrodiae,), Gouteng (,Ramulus Uncariae Cum Uncis,), Longgu (Os Draconis) and Muli (Concha Ostreae) to consume wind-fire, and by combining with spleen yang warming and ac⁃tivating medicinals to balance cold and heat. As Huangqin is good at relieving constraint and stagnation of the, qi, move⁃ment, it can be used to treat intractable and miscellaneous diseases together with the method of dissolving stasis and clearing up turbid.
