Peripheral vascular diseases mainly include arterial, venous, and lymphatic diseases. Most peripheral vascular diseases have such symptoms as cold limbs, pain, intermittent claudication, swelling of limbs, and numbness of the skin. It may develop into ulcers or gangrene in severe cases. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the pathogenesis of these diseases is mostly yang deficiency, cold coagulation, and blood stasis. Professor Pang He believes that peripheral vascular diseases correspond to the "blood paralysis" in the ,Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, and advocates treating peripheral vascular diseases with ,Huangqi Guizhi, Five-Ingredient Decoction, which is indicated for blood paralysis. Professor Pang's experience in peripheral vascular treatment with modified ,Huangqi Guizhi, Five-Ingredient Decoction is introduced from several aspects, for example, treating arteriosclerosis obliterans in accordance with disease severity, curing chronic lower extremity venous edema by combination of paired or triangular Chinese medicine, treating Raynaud's syndrome by grasping syndrome characteristics, and curing lower extremities by coupling the method of "adding water to help the boat move" and insect medicine.
