Treatment of Mixed Connective Tissue Disease with Chinese medicine: A Case Report
Summary of case history, patient Wu, a 55 year old female, visited the hospital on May 16, 2022 due to "repeated fever and lower limb pain for more than 5 months". Five months ago, the patient had no obvious cause of fever, accompanied by systemic muscle soreness. They took anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drugs on their own (specific details are unknown), but the symptoms did not improve significantly. The skin gradually appeared scattered ecchymosis, and the lower limbs showed redness, swelling, and pain. They were diagnosed with "mixed connective tissue disease" at the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. After hospitalization, they still had symptoms of lower limb muscle thinning, weakness, and fatigue, So I came to our outpatient department to seek treatment with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Symptoms and signs: The patient has a clear mind and clear language, a pale complexion, and a normal body temperature. Multiple ecchymosis and bruises on both hands and forearms, as well as horsebean sized gangrene at the ends of many fingers, accompanied by pain, weakness and dull pain in the lower limbs, and limited mobility in squatting and climbing stairs. Dry mouth and nose, poor sleep retention, two can be used. There is less red coating on the tongue, cracks on the surface of the tongue, ecchymosis on the tip of the tongue, and insufficient pulse count.,TCM diagnosis, bi zheng(Yin deficiency and blood heat, blood stasis blocking collaterals syndrome).,Western medicine diagnosis, mixed connective tissue disease.,Therapeutic methods, traditional Chinese medicine treatment is based on nourishing yin and clearing heat, promoting blood circulation and unblocking collaterals, and is administered orally with a self-designed traditional Chinese medicine formula.,Clinical outcomes, the patient's symptoms of lower limb fatigue, dull pain, and dry mouth disappeared, and the gangrene at the end of the finger healed.
