Professor ZHANG Zhiyuan's experience in the treatment of schizophrenia was summarized. It is believed that the occurrence of schizophrenia is closely related to the deficiency of innate endowment or the disorder of diet and emotion. All the causes can lead to ,zang-fu, disfunction, and then cause ,qi, stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm binding, fire stagnation, which result in the abnormal consciousness. Treatment is mainly based on qi, blood, phlegm and fire, at the same time, the method of mutual restraint and catharsis is used. The herbs such as Dahuang (,Rheum palmatum L.,), Fushen[,Poria cocos, (,Schw.,) Wolf]and Longgu (,Fossilizid,) are used in large dosage. And the main treatments are eliminating phlegm for resuscitation, dispersing liver and regulating qi, activating blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis, and invigorating the spleen and dispersing the stagnated liver-energy.
