This article is to introduce Professor DENG Tietao's experience in treating cardiovascular diseases using "junior fire supporting vital Qi" theory. Most of the cardiovascular diseases are syndromes of deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. "The vital Qi of the location where pathogenic Qi attacks must be deficient". Thus strengthening vital Qi to eliminate pathogen is very important. Herbs should be selected rationally to regulate Qi movement to attain "junior fire supporting vital Qi" without superheat consuming Qi, which is a difficult point in clinic. "Junior fire supporting vital Qi" theory is applied skillfully when Prof. DENG uses herbs of benefiting Qi and warming Yang clinically. Prof. DENG treats cardiovascular diseases using methods of applying herbs of same type but different nature, regulating herb dose and combining herbs of removing toxicity.
