The experience of professor HAN Jie treating ulcerative colitis (UC) and extra-intestinal manifestations from turbid toxin was introduced. UC is a chronic nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease. Affected by various factors, such as dietary environment, the incidence of UC is increasing, symptoms are difficult to control and easy to relapse, accompanied by a variety of extraintestinal manifestations. Professor HAN Jie has been engaged in the treatment and research of UC for a long time. He divides UC into three syndrome types:large intestinal dampness-heat syndrome, syndrome of dampness-heat due to spleen deficiency, spleen-kidney deficiency syndrome. Combined with the theory of turbid toxin, this paper puts forward the view of dampness-heat internal accumulation generating turbid toxin, spleen deficiency with dampness-heat and turbid toxin, spleen and kidney deficiency with turbid toxin cementation. Professor HAN Jie believes that turbid toxin can not only enter from the outside, but also from the inside, causing a wide range of diseases. UC is accompanied by oral ulcers, erythema nodosum, peripheral arthritis and other parenteral manifestations which can be treated from turbidity toxin. On the basis of the treatment of UC, drugs for clearing heat and nourishing Yin and removing turbidity, cooling blood and removing blood stasis and detoxification, and removing turbidity and collaterals to relieve pain are added to treat its parenteral manifestations. The clinical use four means including oral Chinese medicine, seven carbonized drugs-retention enema, anus with fortifying spleen suppository and external treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, can remove dampness and eliminateturbid and resolve toxin throughout the whole process, providing a new treatment idea and the treatment methods have achieved certain clinical effect.
