Case Report for Treatment of Pus Ear (Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media) with Spleen-Qi Tonifying and Invigorating Therapy
Summary of case history,: Female patient with surname Li was 27 years old. She paid her first visit to doctor on 15th November, 2018. At that time, she complained of suppurating in the left ear, hearing loss and itchy for more than two years, accompanied by left earache and tinnitus. She had regular menstruation, relatively poor appetite and loose stool. Her teeth-printed tongue was pale and enlarged, with white and greasy coating, and her pulse was wiry and thin.,TCM diagnosis, pus ear (pathogenic dampness encumbering the deficient spleen). ,Western medicine diagnosis, Chronic suppurative otitis media (left ear). ,Therapeutic methods, To treat pus ear (chronic suppurative otitis media) based on syndrome differentiation, the method of spleen-qi tonifying and invigorating therapy is used, and the Sijunzi decoction is used for addition and subtraction.,Clinical outcomes, By September 2021, there was no recurrence for nearly three years follow-up. Professor Li Yunying proposed that spleen-stomach theory was the essential theory for treating pus ear (chronic suppurative otitis media). Clinically, she was adept at using Lingnan folk Chinese herbal medicine, laid emphasis on regulating spleen, and attached importance to the application of the five-element theory in treating pus ear. Her medical skills achieved significant effect in treating disease of otolaryngology nowadays, reflected the inheritance and development of three categories of etiologic factors in TCM theory.
