Treatment of Minimal Change Nephrotic Syndrome with Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine: A Case Report
Summary of case history, The patient Cai, female, 49 years old, visited the hospital on March 13,2021 due to "edema of both lower limbs for 3 days". The patient experienced edema of both lower limbs without obvious inducement 3 days ago, and urine protein 2+ and urine occult blood 1+ were examined in local health center. Albumin: 28.3 g/L, no special treatment was given. Specialist diagnosis and treatment was suggested, so the patient visited the outpatient department of our hospital. Symptoms and signs: The patient had edema of both lower limbs, backache, dry mouth and bitter taste, fatigue, no dizziness, headache, fever, expectoration, palpitation, chest distress, nausea and vomiting, skin pruritus and arthralgia, good diet and sleep, foam urine, no gross hematuria, no urine volume reduction, normal stool, and no significant change in recent weight. Red tongue, yellow and greasy fur, slippery pulse..,TCM diagnosis Edema, Edema (dampness heat accumulation syndrome).,Western medicine diagnosis, Nephrotic syndrome; Hypothyroidism.,Therapeutic methods, Traditional Chinese medicine uses the methods of clearing heat, removing dampness, promoting diuresis, and reducing swelling. It is administered orally with a self-designed traditional Chinese medicine formula, combined with Qiteng Xiaozhuo Granules and Xueshuantong for treatment. Western medicine provides targeted treatment such as oral prednisone, lipid-lowering, anticoagulant, calcium supplementation, and improvement of renal microcirculation.,Clinical outcomes, The patient's symptoms such as edema, low back pain, dry mouth, and bitter mouth gradually improve, with regular reduction of prednisone and continuous negative urine protein
