A Case of Infectious Mononucleosis in Children Treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine
Summary of case history, An 8-year-old boy went to our outpatient clinic with the main cause of "fever with neck swelling for 5 days". The child had recurrent fever and sore throat since 5 days ago, with a maximum temperature of 39℃ each time, nasal congestion, slightly swollen eyelids, snoring at night, and a routine blood test with 17.6×10,9,/L leukocytes, 77% lymphocytes and 10% heterogeneous lymphocytes. Since the onset of the disease, the child had poor sleep, a poor appetite, slightly dry stools, and yellow urine. Physical examination: Several enlarged lymph nodes were palpated in the neck with medium texture and no pressure pain, both eyelids were slightly swollen, lips were red, pharynx was congested, tonsils were II° bilaterally and secretions were visible. The abdomen was soft, slightly distended, and without pressure or rebound pain. The liver was 3 cm below the rib cage and the spleen was 2 cm below the rib cage and was of medium quality with blunt sides. The tongue was red, with a white, greasy coating and a smooth pulse.,TCM diagnosis, Warm febrile disease; Internalized damp-heat, Qi blockage.,Western medicine diagnosis, Infectious mononucleosis.,Therapeutic methods, Using Traditional Chinese medicine, the treatment is to clear heat and dampness, and to move qi and open channels.,Clinical outcomes, After treatment, the child's body temperature returned to normal, the pharyngeal symptoms were relieved, the lymph nodes shrunk, and the liver and spleen retracted, making the treatment effective.
