Summary of case history, Patient TANG, male, 65 years old, attended the clinic on October 24, 2021, with "recurrent cough attacks for more than 1 year, aggravated for 7 days". TANG sought further comprehensive treatment due to the poor results of standardized western medical treatment, so he consulted the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for Pulmonary Diseases, Center of Respiratory Medicine, of China-Japan Friendship Hospital. Data obtained from TCM four diagnostic methods: aversion to cold, dry cough, choking, worsening at night and early morning, lasting 15-30 minutes, throat itching, especially pharyngeal discomfort, white phlegm that is not easy to expectorate, insufficient Spirit, aversion to cold, pale complexion, stuffy nose, xerostomia, cyanotic lips, no wheezing, shortness of breath, suffocation or other discomforts; poor sleep, only 3-4 hours of sleep, normal appetite, defecation, and urination, pink tongue with white and greasy coating and tortuous sublingual veins; wiry and weak pulse. ,TCM diagnosis, cough (wind cough) with extensive wind and spasm syndrome.,Diagnosis, cough variant asthma(CVA)., Treatment, At the initial diagnosis, the cough symptoms were aggravated by the wind and conventional western medical treatment didn't alleviate the cough effectively. So it was important to dispel the wind: firstly to relieve wind and spasm, and coordinate with Chinese medicine which can quicken the blood, clear heat and transform stasis. In this way, the symptoms can be restored, together with the conventional western medicine treatment, to strengthen body resistance and eliminate evil at the same time during the remission period helps to control the progress of CVA and reduce the recurrence of symptoms. ,Efficacy outcome: ,The patient slept well and had no coughing episodes at night, Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) exhaled nitric oxide was re-examined on January 6, 2022: 51 ppb, a decrease of 77.53% from the previous time.
